A Penrose tiling you can plot
Roger Penrose found these tilings in the 1970s. Two tile shapes cover the plane with no repeating period: slide a copy of the whole pattern in any direction and it never lines up with itself. Small patches keep coming back, but the whole never does.
The generator grows the tiling from a ring of ten triangles at the centre of the page. Type switches between thick and thin rhombs or kites and darts. Each step of Generations, from 3 to 9, splits every tile into smaller ones, shrunk by the golden ratio. Only tile edges are drawn and a shared edge is drawn once, so the pen doesn't go over the same edge twice. Colour By tile puts each tile type on its own pen, and the seed rotates the tiling.
